Why I want to work in architecture
My interest in architecture comes from my interest in people. At the University of Michigan, I have explored sociology and research alongside my architectural studies because I am fascinated by how people interact with one another and how their environments shape their experiences. Architecture gives me a way to take that curiosity and translate it into something physical and tangible.
What draws me most to architecture is the connection between research, design, and making. I enjoy starting with a question, learning about the people and context surrounding it, and then using design to explore a response. I also find a deep sense of connection in the process of creating. Working with physical models and materials allows me to take an idea that exists in my mind and gradually give it form through testing, changing, and making.
My studies have made me especially interested in the social dimensions of the built environment, including housing, displacement, preservation, and inequality. These subjects have shown me that architecture is connected to much larger questions about society and the people who experience the spaces we create.
For me, architecture is a bridge between my curiosity about people and my desire to create. It allows me to combine research and critical thinking with creativity and hands-on making, while creating spaces that can have a meaningful presence in people's lives.
