Why I want to work in architecture
The built environment has always interested me. Growing up, my mother and I would drive around looking at buildings and discussing what worked well, what did not, and how we would improve them. Those drives cultivated my love of architecture and design. In college, my understanding expanded beyond aesthetics as I began to see architecture as a physical expression of philosophy.
At California Baptist University, I have explored the ideas that shape architecture. I am particularly interested in contextualism, sustainability, and historic preservation through adaptive reuse. I have had the opportunity to study and practice architecture internationally in Koropi, Greece, and Florence, Italy. While in Europe, I worked on adaptive reuse projects and experienced urban environments where historic buildings are thoughtfully given contemporary life. These experiences strengthened my interest in adaptive reuse, urban design, and sustainable development.
I am excited by architecture’s ability to meet present needs while building upon what already exists. My goal is to create efficient, meaningful, and sustainable environments that serve their communities, respect history, preserve land, and make thoughtful use of existing resources.
