I want to work in architecture because I believe the built environment has the power to shape people's lives, opportunities, health, and sense of belonging. Architecture is more than creating structures; it is about designing spaces that reflect the needs, cultures, and experiences of the communities they serve. I am interested in architecture because it allows me to combine creativity, technical knowledge, and social impact to create meaningful solutions.
My passion for architecture comes from understanding how the places we live, work, and gather influence our everyday experiences. Through my studies and my research with the East Bay Academy for Young Scientists, where I examined lead contamination and environmental health risks in Bay Area communities, I became more aware of how the built environment connects to public health, environmental justice, and community well-being. I saw how issues such as aging housing, environmental hazards, and unequal investment disproportionately impact communities of color.
As an architecture student, I want to contribute to a profession that creates healthier, more sustainable, and more equitable environments. I am especially interested in residential and multifamily housing because housing is a foundation for stability, opportunity, and generational wealth. I want to learn how thoughtful design, sustainable construction, and community-centered planning can help address challenges such as housing affordability, displacement, and climate.
