I am interested in the professional practice of architecture because it represents the point where design, responsibility, and lived experience intersect. As a fourth-year Bachelor of Architecture student at Cal Poly Pomona and a first-generation immigrant, I view architecture not only as a creative discipline, but as a practical tool for shaping environments that support people, communities, and opportunity. My winter internship at FoxLin Architects in Joshua Tree provided direct exposure to construction methodology, waterproofing, site coordination, and the realities of translating drawings into built form. Working closely with the construction
process strengthened my understanding of professional accountability and reinforced my interest in the technical and collaborative aspects of practice. In addition, my volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity has deepened my appreciation for architecture’s social impact and its ability to serve diverse communities.
Together, these experiences motivate me to pursue professional practice as a means to develop technical competence, contribute meaningfully, and grow as an architect grounded in both design excellence and real-world responsibility.
