Why I want to work in architecture
One of the main reasons I am interested in the professional practice of architecture is because I have seen
how design decisions continue to affect a building long after construction is complete. Through professional experience on institutional and residential projects in Germany, I became increasingly focused on how detailing, documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration directly influence performance, durability, and life-safety outcomes. Exposure to envelope failures, moisture issues, and coordination conflicts shifted my interest from design intent alone toward long-term building behavior and execution. As I transition into U.S. practice, I am intentionally seeking an early-career, hands-on role that allows me to learn American codes, construction methods, and office workflows from the ground up. Although I have completed all six ARE divisions and hold sustainability-focused credentials, I recognize that effective practice is highly context-specific and must be learned through direct experience and mentorship. I am motivated to work in a setting where learning, collaboration, and technical rigor are emphasized, and where I can contribute productively while continuing to develop confidence and competence within the U.S. professional environment.
